Summer Term

English: Non-fiction texts, Balanced arguments, drama work, mini-sagas based on legend, newspaper reports, playscripts, poetry.

SPAG: Punctuating speech, apostrophes of possession and contraction, verb tense, conjunctions, singular and plural nouns, word families, prepositions, suffixes, prefixes and homophones.

Maths:

(Term 5) Scaling/ratio, calculating with and rounding decimals, dividing by 10 and 100, Roman numerals, equivalent fractions and decimals, calculating with fractions, symmetry, angles and protractor work.

(Term 6) Division, fractions of quantities, checking answers by rounding, number sequences, negative numbers, time involving 12- and 24- hour clocks, calculating with measures, interpreting statistical data, problem solving including multi-step problems.

RE: Easter, Pentecost.

Science: Living things and their habitats, working scientifically.

Topic: Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.

This topic involves looking at where the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings came from and why they invaded and settled in Britain. We study village life, kingdoms and culture, including beliefs and literature from this time.

PE: Athletics

Music: Listening & Appraising, improvisation using voices and instruments, composition, musical language surrounding the inter-related dimensions of music.

DT/Art: Weaving, making Anglo-Saxon roundhouses/Viking longships, Anglo-Saxon runes, studying artists from around the world.

By the end of Year 4, children are required to know all of their times tables (up to 12x12). To help them practise, there are a range of online games including:
